Armed officers are hunting for the lone gunman who killed the officer and shot and injured another man, in Clacton, Essex before escaping.

It emerged tonight that a serving Essex Police officer - understood to be a sergeant based in Colchester - was killed by the gunman.
The officer, in his 40s, lives at the house close to where he was shot and it is not thought he was on duty when the incident took place.
Two police helicopters are hovering overhead and the body remains underneath a red blanket and a white gazebo-style tent has been erected over the body.
Essex Police have not officially confirmed that their officer was killed by the gunman but sources close to the enquiry have confirmed the news....read more
